Here is your guide to what is happening in the city of Yarra on this record store day.
Record Store Day Australia has teamed up with the Leaps and Bounds Music Festival and the City of Yarra for the second edition of Record Store Day 2021 to bring you an extended vinyl party taking place in record stores across the inner north.
With a huge selection of in-store appearances, album and single launches and sales, you won’t want to miss out on all of the fun taking place on Saturday 17th July for RSD.
To help you create a schedule, we’ve rounded up what’s happening as part of the Leaps and Bounds Record Store Day Vinyl Party.
Stay up to date with the latest music interviews, news and reviews here.
Plug Seven Records
Prepare to dig seriously for boxes at Plug Seven Records this Saturday. In addition to a number of RSD special releases, there are discount boxes, selection packs, and many more goodies to get your hands on.
As a real plug-seven affair, RSD will see the beloved OG employee Izabel on the decks after several years abroad, together with the local P7 favorites, the DJs Sophie San and Billie-Jean between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Even if you go home empty-handed (which, let’s face it, is very unlikely), you’ll still have fun reading through the selections and hearing the bangs one after the other as you surf.
Visit Plug Seven Records from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to get involved.
For beers and bargains, Vinyl Space is your RSD destination. They offer 20 percent off everything in store for purchases over $ 50, and you get a free can of Bodriggy Pilsner for $ 20.
There will be a number of giveaways and prizes to be won, with details about the day and a DJ playing tracks from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Visit Vinyl Space between 10am and 6pm for a bargain.
Oh jeans! records
Oh jeans! Records brings it up with their vinyl party with a range of RSD releases, discounts, freebies, and more. To keep you energized while you kneel on these boxes, they will also be spinning coffee throughout the day.
In addition, the DJs Kyle Minogue, Eddie Gardens and MeloTone bring the funk to the decks.
What more do you want?
Go down to Oh Jean! Records from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to check it out.
Licorice cake records
Licorice Pie Records is leading the party outside of this RSD and pouring into the Collingwood Yards district where the store is located.
From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. you can see Mr. Geoffrey AKA Geoff Nees, Billie-Jean, Matt McFetridge, Woody McDonald and Green Child DJs (aka Raven Mahon and Mikey Young from Total Control) slinging songs.
Plus, Young Henry’s tin cans will keep you hydrated while hunting for cheap purchases.
It takes place from 12pm to 5pm at Licorice Pie Records.
At Natural Selection for RSD, not only will DJs be spinning wax all day, but two bands will also be welcomed to the store for live performances.
On the live music front, you’ll find sets from Beatnik Collective and The Rookies, while Ed Kent, Yi Lum, Mr Pitiful and DJ Ingrid play on the decks all afternoon.
And of course, it wouldn’t be Record Store Day without some hot discounts and special releases.
Visit Natural Selection between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM to see it.
Strangeworld Records is very closed to its RSD party, but we know there will be discounts and a free BBQ courtesy of a guest chef.
Looks like you just have to shut down the day and figure out the rest for yourself.
Stop by Strangworld Records for a bargain.
Skydiver Records makes up for the in-store celebrations they couldn’t host at last RSD, bringing a huge selection of DJ sets and live music to their dig on Johnston Street for Drop Two.
The melodies are provided by Bridget Small, EXEK, Gab Cole, Jess Sneddon, Meg 4X4, Mugagga and Zjoso.
Come to dance and shop till you drop.
It happens from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Skydiver Records.
Wah wah records
Sales? Check! Beers? Check! Live songs? Check! It all happens at Wah Wah Records this RSD.
The party starts with an in-store set by the sister folk duo Charm of Finches, followed by a boisterous performance by Goldminds.
Make your way to Wah Wah Records from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to be right in the middle of it all.
Northside Records is closing Little Smith Street for a free gig in the parking lot for all ages with some special, secret guests whose identities will be revealed Thursday.
Inside, you’ll find exclusive releases from the likes of Ruel, DJ Peril and Proto Moro, as well as a pile of international RSD drops.
The gig starts at 5 p.m. Be the first to know who’s playing by signing up for Northside Records’ e-newsletter.
Visit Northside Records between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to partake in the action.
The Record Store Day vinyl party will take place on Saturday, July 17th as part of the Leaps and Bounds Music Festival. More information can be found on the festival website.
