The vast majority of Irish music festivals are still in the works and will take place this summer despite fears about vaccine distribution.

While Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has shared hope that Ireland will have a good summer thanks to the COVID-19 vaccine, many have raised concerns that the process of delivering the shocks is far too slow.

To offset the mass cancellation of summer festivals in 2020, most organizers are planning to go full steam ahead this year.

All together now

The Curraghmore-based festival will take place as planned from July 30th to August 1st to celebrate “an unforgettable festival of togetherness,” as they describe it.

“Given the incredible progress in the adoption of vaccines and vaccines around the world, at this point we are confident that there is a festival season. Ultimately, the legal authorities will make the final decision,” said the organizers Extra.ie.

‘We will do everything possible to make the shows possible, as waiting for another year would be a big disappointment for the audience, who were deprived of live music and shared experiences last year, but also for artists, technicians and event specialists and the entire ecosystem and creative industries behind events like ours. ‘

‘This is a situation we hoped would never happen, but we have no choice. We made the decision to protect ticket holders and make sure they are all refunded in time for Christmas, ”the organizers said in a statement.

“This is not a decision we made lightly. With a heavy heart we see no other option. However, this is not the end of independence, we are looking to the future, to something new, unfortunately we cannot do that in Mitchelstown for the foreseeable future. ‘

Sea meetings

The organizers of Sea Sessions told us Extra.ie that they are fully confident that the festival will take place “in some form” from June 18th to 20th.

‘For example, we’re looking at New Zealand, which had festivals with a capacity of 20,000 over the Christmas period, or Germany, Spain and the Netherlands, where they ran test appearances as part of a series of security measures that did not lead to an increase in COVID. 19 infections.

“It would be great if our government could be so proactive and do similar testing. If people take the current measures seriously and do their part, we are confident it will lead to a much-needed summer of festivals and live music. ‘
