Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift headline virtual music festival this weekend

This weekend, Global Citizen is hosting an online music festival featuring Taylor Swift and more. In addition, John Krasinski will play a virtual prom on YouTube.

It seems like forever since we went to a concert or a music festival. The COVID-19 pandemic replaced personal concerts with virtual jam sessions and drive-in shows, but the time has finally come: music festivals are back.

With all Americans 12 and older now eligible for a vaccine, COVID-19 cases in all 50 states, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s mask guidelines loosening the masks, the live music industry is coming back to life.

Lollapalooza will be the country’s first major multi-genre music festival in 15 dismal months and the largest, expected to host 100,000 fans a day in Chicago by the end of July.

And it’s not the only music festival on the calendar. Here is a breakdown of the upcoming music festivals:

Land thunder

Headliner: Old Dominion, Kane Brown, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Blake Shelton, Big & Rich, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Russell Dickerson, Dustin Lynch, Luke Combs and more.

When: 11-13 June 15-18 (Iowa) July 10-12 (Wisconsin) September (Florida) and 14-17. October (Arizona).

Where: Forest City, Iowa; Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; Kissimmee, Florida; Florence, Arizona.

When: July 23rd to 25th.

Where: Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

Security: Festival organizers say they are currently working with local and state officials to “keep our fans safe,” according to the health and safety information posted on the website. The organizers did not specify whether attendees should wear masks or be vaccinated, but suggested that fans “keep an eye on our social media for updated information”.

Lollapalooza

Headliner: Foo Fighters, Post Malone, Tyler, the Creator, Miley Cyrus, Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, EarthGang, Rico Nasty, Slowthai, BROCKHAMPTON, Playboi Carti, Horse Band, Young Thug, Modest Mouse and more.

When: July 29th-Aug. 1.

Where: Grant Park in Chicago.

Security: All festival goers must be fully vaccinated or have negative COVID-19 test results within 24 hours of attending Lollapalooza daily.

Bonnaroo

Headliner: Foo Fighters, Lizzo, Tyler, the Creator, Tame Impala, Megan Thee Stallion, Lana Del Rey, Lil Baby, Run The Jewels, Janelle Monáe, Phoebe Bridgers, deadmau5, G-Eazy, Jack Harlow, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, Brittany Howard and more.

When: September 2nd to 5th.

Where: Manchester, Tennessee.

Security: Officials say “improved health and safety measures” have been put in place despite failing to set out the specific guidelines. Bonnaroovians will receive information on “Changes to Policies and Procedures to Know Before Entering the Festival and Campgrounds”.

BottleRock

When: September 3rd to 5th.

Where: Napa Valley Expo in Napa, California.

Security: BottleRock will adhere to COVID-19 guidelines “at the time of the festival” as per the festival’s health and safety information.

summer party

Headliner: Chance the Rapper, Brett Eldredge, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Miley Cyrus, Run the Jewels, Dave Matthews Band, T-Pain, Styx, Chris Stapleton, Shaquille O’Neal (DJ Diesel) and dozens of other headliners.

When: 2-4 September 9-11 And 16.-18.

Where: Henry Maier Festival Park in Milwaukee.

Security: Milwaukee Department of Health Commissioner Kirsten Johnson said that “masks will be worn and enforced” at the summer festival, but proof of vaccination is currently not required, although it is recommended.

Pitchfork Music Festival

When: September 10th to 12th.

Where: Union Park in Chicago.

Security: The organizers require all festival visitors aged 12 and over to be fully vaccinated within the last 24 hours for each festival day or to provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 test. Masks are required on the entire festival site.

Life is beautiful

When: 17th-19th September.

Where: Downtown Las Vegas.

Security: The organizers are in “close contact with local and state officials”, according to the festival’s health and safety information.

Riot feast

Headliner: Nine Inch Nails, Pixies, Devo, Run the Jewels, The Smashing Pumpkins, Faith No More, and more.

When: 17th-19th September.

Where: Douglas Park in Chicago.

Security: “Our safety guidelines will evolve as we work with local and state health authorities to offer you the clearest guidelines possible,” said the festival’s FAQs. “There will be a number of additional security measures that we will apply this year in the best interests of all participants.”

When: September 23rd to 26th.

Where: The woods in Dover, Delaware.

Security: The organizers said that although “it is too early to say exactly what precautions will be taken at the festival”, the festival will “obey all applicable COVID-19-related mandates”.

Louder than life

Where: Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Security: “Improved safety measures will be introduced on the basis of the latest guidelines from the health authorities of the city, district and state government,” says the festival’s frequently asked questions. “All security measures are published before our events, published at all entrances and enforced during our events.”

Where: Central Florida Exhibition Center in Orlando, Florida.

Security: According to the Billboard, ticket holders are asked to wear masks when shopping for food, beverages, goods and cash registers as well as in toilet facilities. Hand disinfection stations are located on the entire festival site. The festival offers additional security measures that are closer to the date of the event.

When: October 1st to 3rd and October 8th to 10th.

Where: Zilker Park in Austin, Texas.

Security: Organizers said coronavirus security measures will go into effect in October.

Outside the countries
